Educational Therapy

Learn to Read

The Learn to Read program targets students of all ages who are struggling to learn to read, but particularly those with Dyslexia or a Specific Learning Disability. Instruction is multi-sensory and targets visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities. Research shows that phonemic awareness is the number one predictor of reading success. In this program, students will master phonemic awareness, which is the ability to blend sounds to form recognizable words and to manipulate individual sounds in within words. Instructional methods are based on current neuroscience, which shows that multi-sensory instruction can literally re-wire a student's brain to form new pathways and work more efficiently. Sessions are typically 1.5 hours in length and include brain games interspersed throughout research-based instruction that includes an Orton-Gillingham approach and Lindamood Bell's LiPS and Seeing Stars curriculum.

Read to Learn
In Read to Learn, the focus is on understanding and analyzing what you have read. This program unlocks the secret to reading comprehension that very few schools teach...VISUALIZATION. When reading, some students, especially those with Dyslexia or a Specific Learning Disability, do not create that movie reel in their minds that other people do when they read. Using Lindamood Bell's Visualizing and Verbalizing program, students will learn how to image, understand, and recall stories both verbally and in writing. While this program focuses on reading comprehension, students' verbal and written language skills improve right alongside. Appropriate for students of all ages who are reading at or above a 1st grade level.
