Melissa's Mission
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to read. My mission is to make reading an achievable task for students with learning differences, particularly Dyslexia. Whether I'm tutoring or advocating, my goal is to eliminate the child's feeling of defeat, build a sense of confidence, ensure academic success, and evoke positive social-emotional development.
Testimonials
"We are so indebted to Melissa. She is the perfect combination of intellect, creativity, and compassion. Through wonderful organic work, she developed a deep, connected relationship with our son and was able to help him through a very difficult time. Although our main focus was behavioral, he did have some academic needs in terms of reading. She was able to get him over these hurdles with ease. We are so very grateful Melissa entered our lives when we most deeply needed help. Thank you, Melissa!"

Testimonials
"Melissa has been instrumental in our daughter’s success with learning the fundamentals of language and with her overall love of reading!

Melissa came into our lives when our daughter faced difficulties, daily, with reading in school. She struggled to keep up with her peers, in the classroom, and was falling drastically behind the base grade-level-standards in reading, writing, and spelling. This, for us, was a family crisis. Knowing that the third grade was around the corner, and knowing that as the standards of reading fluency increased with each passing month the more our daughter would have to fend for herself in the classroom. Sadly, at this point our daughter’s interest in reading had diminished to zero and her challenges with fluency were beginning to affect her attitude, as well as her self- esteem.

Over the course of the months our daughter has been working with Melissa the progress has been amazing! Now our daughter presents newfound phonemic awareness and is able to recall the sounds of ALL the letters of the alphabet! Now, she spells and reads with confidence! She actually WANTS to read, requests that we buy her books, and is not afraid to try to read them on her own.

Melissa stopped our daughter from slipping farther behind, and has not only taught her how to read and spell with accuracy, but has also helped foster a sense of confidence with language that our daughter previously lacked. We understand that our daughter will continue to face challenges with language for the rest of her life, but, armed with the tools Melissa has helped instill in her, our daughter can go forward knowing that these challenges can, and will be, managed and overcome."

Dear Melissa,
We have never met, but you are very important to us. You have helped our grandson, Everett, and his parents, Heather and Jeremy, much more than you could possibly know.

Heather struggled with similar difficulties when she was Everett's age. She worked so hard and never gave up, but we sat and cried in frustration together on more than one occasion. Heather found ingenious ways to make things work for her, on her own. It is such a wonderful thing to know that Everett has such patient and loving help, from you, along what is sometimes such a difficult path. Everett is blessed with wonderful parents, and a strong, supportive family, but also with a brilliant and kind tutor who genuinely cares.

You are so very talented and have a wonderful way of communicating with your students and their families. The caring, unconditional support, and calming influence you have provided to Everett while helping him learn to advocate for himself is tremendous. Your ability to make the seemingly impossible task a challenge that can be met, is truly a gift. You are truly a gift, and we thank you. It is important that you know your loving care and concern for your students and their families has touched people you have never met. We are very sure there are many of us. Thank you for all you do for our family!
"Melissa worked with my son who has ADHD and Autism. She provided insightful and thoughtful input to difficult situations. She prepared my son emotionally and intellectually as he entered the third grade. She was the cornerstone in developing my son’s IEP program. She is intelligent, patient and very capable. She has dedicated her life to helping kids with special needs."
“Grace started working with Melissa to help with spelling development. Grace was challenging child because she wasn’t necessarily open to receiving Melissa’s help. Melissa was tenacious and definitely connected with Grace. Thankfully Grace’s spelling challenges were resolved quickly. However, during that time Grace and Melissa developed a special bond. Melissa now works with Grace on a variety of academic skills. Best move we ever made was to engage Melissa.”
"Melissa plays a vital role in our son's academic success. He is at grade level or above in all of his school subjects. He would not have come as far as he has without Melissa."
